Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Letters

If your animal is part of how you cope with anxiety, depression or trauma, a legitimate ESA letter from a licensed clinician documents that need — properly, and without the instant-letter websites that landlords reject.

What a real ESA letter requires

A valid ESA letter comes from a licensed mental health professional who has actually evaluated you and determined that your animal helps mitigate symptoms of a mental health condition.

That is exactly the process here: a clinical assessment over Zoom, in English or Spanish, and — when clinically appropriate — a signed letter on letterhead with my license information, the kind housing providers verify and accept.

What your letter covers

Under the Fair Housing Act, a proper ESA letter supports:

  • Living with your animal in "no pets" housing
  • Waiver of pet fees and pet deposits
  • Documentation your landlord can verify with a real clinician

Honest by design

An assessment is required — this is not an instant-approval service. If an ESA letter isn't clinically appropriate for you, I'll tell you honestly and we can discuss what support would actually help.

ESA letter questions

How fast can I get my letter?

Usually within a few days of your assessment session, once clinical appropriateness is established.

Does this cover flying with my animal?

Airlines stopped recognizing ESAs in 2021 (only trained service dogs fly free). ESA letters today apply mainly to housing under the Fair Housing Act.

Do you write letters for any animal?

Most ESAs are dogs and cats, but the law doesn't limit species. What matters clinically is the support the animal provides you.
